existing conditions analyses
As part of the 8 urban plans I have worked on at JM Goldson LLC, I have developed existing conditions analyses to assess municipalities across eight key categories: demographics, housing, economy, transportation, historic and cultural resources, open space and recreation, facilities and services, and land use.
In these analyses, I have combined and compared data from different sources to identify relevant patterns and trends, such as households’ ability to afford a mortgage, the identification of emerging economic sectors, or the analysis of how many homes are within walking distance of public transportation.
What is an existing conditions analysis?
It is the process of diagnosing the current state of a city or territory through quantitative and qualitative data. It provides a solid foundation for urban planning by helping to understand how a community functions in the present and its challenges. This approach enables the development of strategies that respond to the territory’s real needs.
